    Qualifications

    ·       Education:  Must have a BA in Education, Literacy or related field with emphasis on reading.  Teaching Certificate preferred.

    ·       Experience:  Two years experience working in the educational field.

    ·       Knowledge and Skills:  Excellent communication, computer and organizational skills and schedule flexibility.  Bi-lingual skills highly preferred.

    General Description:

    Manage a caseload of adult literacy and ESL students by training and advising tutors, student assessments and data collection and reporting.  Take a leadership role in enrolling and testing adult literacy students (both reading and ESL), matching the student and tutor, providing support and supervision to the pair in a case management format, providing recommendations on student retention, recruitment and learning gain improvement. Assist with training volunteers as tutors and tutor orientations and student group testing.  As well as assisting with program development and improvement.

    Area of Responsibilities:

    Adult Literacy Students

    • Provide student pre & post assessments, match with tutor and monitor progress.
    • Manage client caseload database and tracking systems.
    • Compile and submit reports for funding sources.
    • Coordinate a student survey during the progress report to evaluate program.
    • Develop recruitment and retention strategies to meet annual goals.
    • Oversee and plan student activities.

    Volunteer Activity

    • Recruit the number of tutors, trainers, testers, and other volunteers needed for effective implementation of various organizational activities and outcomes.
    • Provide and/or oversee volunteer orientations, trainings and recognition events with staff or volunteer assistance.
    • Supervise volunteer tutors.
    • Timely compilation and analysis of all volunteer related data.
    • Coordinate annual volunteer survey to evaluate program.
    • Create new volunteer opportunities as necessary.

    ELI at Wayne State University is seeking 3 part-time faculty immediately for the fall 2014 semester.

    The English Language Institute at Wayne State University in Detroit http://www.eli.wayne.edu/ is immediately seeking three part-time instructors to teach in the fall session, from now until December 12.
    Responsibilities include teaching pre-academic ESL courses to intermediate and advanced level students. Classes will take place from 8:30am to 12:30pm, Mondays through Thursdays.

    The minimum requirement is an MA in TESOL (or a closely related field with a TESL Certificate).  IEP teaching experience preferred.

    The Auburn Hills Campus of OCC is looking for someone who is comfortably skilled at advanced writing/reading to teach a class this fall. We experienced some unexpected last-minute changes leaving us with a slot open late in the game.

    We are soliciting resumes for the Sept/Oct 2014 term for ESL instructors at Language Center International, http://www.languagecenter.us/. Classes meet Monday to Thursday from 8:45 to 6:15 and Fridays 8:45 to 12:45.

    There is the possibility of evening classes and classes Friday afternoon.

    Our fall term, first session, runs from Sept 8 to Oct 24.  We are interviewing for full and part-time openings. Our program has continued to expand and we are seeking additional instructors to add to our current staff.

     

    Full-time Positions Expanding ESL program:

    Applicants must have an MA degree or higher in ESL, English, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Language Instruction, or Foreign Languages and experience teaching ESL at a postsecondary level in a classroom environment. Additionally, applicants should possess a minimum of three months of full-time equivalent ESL or foreign language teaching experience or a certificate in teaching ESL or foreign language that includes a practice teaching component; experience instructing adult international students at a postsecondary level; native or near native abilities in English with minimal errors in writing and speaking; the ability to teach all subjects at all levels effectively; and excellent communication skills and knowledge of computer operations. Knowledge of a second language and overseas experience are preferable but not required.

    Starting salary $26,500 to $28,000 (based on experience) plus 100% employer funded health care for the instructor. Bonuses and pension plan are additional benefits.


    Part-time Positions Expanding ESL program:

    All applicants must have a minimum of a BA degree. Preference is given to applicants with an MA or higher in ESL, English, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics or Foreign Languages. Applicants without a degree in ESL should have a minimum of the equivalent of three months of full-time ESL teaching experience, or a certificate in teaching ESL or foreign language that includes a practice teaching component. All applicants should have experience working with adult international students; possess native or near native abilities in English with minimal errors in writing and speaking and have good communication skills and knowledge of computer operations. Knowledge of a second language and overseas experience are preferable but not required.

    New part-time instructors with a BA start at $22.00 per hour. MA instructors start at $23. Bonuses and pension plan are additional benefits.
